Art Angel Editions celebrates 15 years of the Turner Galleries Art Angels sponsored residencies in Perth, and showcases the entire suite of artworks that have been created by the artists who have participated in the program since 2002.
Over the years the Art Angels have supported 47 remarkable artists who have come to Perth, to live, create, exhibit and share their art with the Western Australian community. The program has attracted extremely high calibre artists to Perth for residencies and exhibitions and has made an enormous contribution to the cultural life of Perth since the program started.
Each year, three artists are given up to a month long residency and are provided with a solo exhibition at Turner Galleries. The Art Angels fund the return airfares, accommodation and freight costs for each artist, as well as providing a generous artist payment. In return the visiting artists creates a set of limited edition artworks for the Art Angels members, give talks about their work and are encouraged to meet with students and lecturers from the local art colleges and universities.
The Turner Galleries Art Angels Incorporated was formed in late 2001 as a philanthropic group of patrons to support an innovative Artist in Residence Program, designed to provide practical assistance to artists in Australia. The Art Angels each pay an annual membership fee of $1200 to support a residency and acquisition program, which over the lifespan of the program has resulted in over 100 members having contributed more than $670,000 in total. In return, hundreds of Art Angels are now the proud owners of artworks by these participating artists.
Memberships are now being accepted for the 2018 program. More information about the Art Angels can be found on the Turner Galleries website or by contacting the gallery directly.
