ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

For each member of The South West Printmakers, 'IN PLACE' resonates with a unique response.

For some, it is the physical submersion in an actual place and the resulting subsequent reactions. Through formal and conceptual exploration, an opportunity can be created to raise awareness and safeguard that place through creative expression.

For others, IN PLACE provides a readiness and certainty of outcome, a place in which creativity can rest, a place wherein the creator experiences a state of ‘flow’ or an opportunity for the celebration of interconnectedness and wholeness; embracing our creativity as a way of staying connected.

For the components of the exhibition; the wall work, the print share and the camp share, will employ different forms of three-dimensional vessels in which to portray the individual efforts.

For the viewer, this will encourage further interpretation of the title, thus allowing the opportunity to contemplate their own response to the notion of being IN PLACE.

ABOUT THE SOUTH WEST PRINTMAKERS

The South West Printmakers are a diverse group of individual artists, brought together by a passion for printmaking. Many of the original group members met while studying visual arts at TAFE and Edith Cowan University in Bunbury.

The group formed in late 2005 and began exhibiting together a year later. Their first exhibition was to display their printshare at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries in 2006, they exhibited there annually until 2021, after which they moved to a biennial exhibition. Individual artists in the group also take part in combined or solo exhibitions outside of their group activities.

The group currently comprises of 7 artists: Lianne Jay, Janette Trainer, Sue Dennis, Christine Latham, Yvonne Dorricott, Carol Farmer and Molly Coy. Individually these artists produce original prints and mixed media work, both 2D and 3D; artist's books and installations. Between them they use a variety of printmaking techniques, including intaglio, relief, and silkscreen, as well as some digital and photographic based methods.

Join us on Sunday 11 December as we celebrate this exhibition along with 4 other current exhibitions as part of our next brunch@brag event. This is a free event offering live music, free kids craft activities, food vans and of course art!!
