Romance and Landscape 1981 – 2019 presents a 38 year survey of the work of Western Australian painter Philip Berry. His love affair with art began when he was seventeen, growing up in a creative family. By his early twenties, Berry was studying at the Claremont School of Art, taking classes in sculpture, drawing, printmaking and painting. Over the decades, Berry has been award numerous painting prizes, and was an artist in residence of many of Perth’s well known studios, including Gotham, William Street and Midland in the 1980s and 1990s. Since then, Berry has experienced the ups and downs of changing trends, throughout which he has maintained his commitment to and love for painting. This exhibition explores the extensive work of a unique Western Australian artist.
