Mel Grealish: Chasing the Light

Location Convent Gallery
From Saturday 09 September 2017 -  10:00am
To Sunday 22 October 2017 - 04:00pm

Opening Friday 8 September, 6pm

In this, her first solo exhibition, Grealish explores the nuances of light through a series of oil paintings.

Diverse in subject matter and painterly style, the works are drawn together by the artist’s quest to chase the light.  With a keen sensibility for those fleeting moments where a scene is bathed in morning sun or afternoon glow Grealish casts her eye over landscapes, portraits and the tableau of everyday life to record them in paint and make their beauty visible to others.

Originally hailing from Galway in Ireland, Mel Grealish has called Western Australia home since the late 1980s.  While she has a particular affinity for the unique light and climate of WA, her works explores these qualities from a variety of perspectives and subject matter.

Although this is her first solo exhibition, the artist has been practicing her craft over many years, studying art classes during evenings and weekends alongside her working life as a corporate administrator.
